Oh how mystical we make it all sound to go on a transformational trip, when the word transformation simply means ”to change”. I was asked to share with you the impact of a transformational trip. The reality is we are transforming every day.
My most recent trip was to Cancun, Mexico with the Transformational Leadership Council (TLC), where transformational leaders share best practices and co-create humanitarian projects to help transform our world. What does that mean? They want to create a better world for all of us and generations to come.
We all want that right? The question is what we are doing to “transform” or change the world to be a better place for all of us and do we need to go on some mystical trip to make it happen?
I believe it starts with each and every one of us, right here where we live, every day. The trips may inspire us to think definitely but they are simply a catalyst. When we are ready, willing and able to change ourselves for the better, we can then make an impact on the world. That is what transformation is about. For me, going on trips like this allows me to see things from a different perspective.
Jack Canfield, Best-selling Author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and Canfield Success Principles, said to me “Look at every experience as transformational, it’s not the end of the world (when something you thought you wanted fails to happen) but a new beginning. “ Find the gift in each perceived “challenge” and use it as s time to transform. Change the way we choose to react to it. Learn how to see each moment as an opportunity instead of challenge or a failure. Be willing to change the plan – to transform. From these trips I always come away with new ways to think about things, getting away from home simple gives us space and time to allow the new ideas to sink in.
I met many people like Jack Canfield who make an impact on the world and all those around them. From natural healers to best-selling authors to CEO’s of major organizations that are all impacting or transforming our world. Transformation happens each and every day in the way we respond to everything that happens and the impact or influence we have on others.
Dr. Ivan Misner, Founder and CEO for BNI (Business Network International) spoke at this event about his own transformation. He has been a member of the TLC for 10 years and in the beginning he questioned why. “What does a business networking organization have to do with transformation? How is BNI a transformational organization? How am I a transformational leader” he said. With the help of his TLC colleagues he realized that BNI is “Changing the Way the World Does Business”. The organization has made an impact on hundreds of thousands of business professionals. Helping them to look at a new way to approach business networking and the results they can obtain through a simply philosophy of “Givers Gain”.
When he established the business there was no specific goal to be a “transformational leader”. But he is. He is a leader of people, a leader of change that is making an impact on this world. As can you.
I have long said if you take one thing from any conference you attend and truly apply it in your life it was worth your time invested. That is transformation. Truly making a change in your behavior, the way you do things or the way you view and then react to them. You can do this any time, no trip necessary.
The story of transformation is the story of life. It is our journey to transform into the best person we can be. It is the voices in our heads telling us to reach for more, to learn more, to discover more, to seek and find more.
Unfortunately, we fear it, avoid it, and push it away. We do everything to try to make ourselves fit in to the so called “norm” rather than searching for the gift within that we can share to make a difference in the world.
The Law of Transformation is the real secret. When we respond to the voices in our head and make a change – we are transforming! When we demonstrate transformation we have an impact on others, which then transforms the world. You can do it!!
